FROM POP ART TO TRANSAVANTGARDE, Appropriations of popular Art

Descriptive memory

Memory, Art History, popular culture, the representation of the human body, the attempt to balance opposing tendencies, are the pillars of the construction of my works, but not the point of origin, that is reserved for the search for an interior homeostasis.
In an outside world that is shaken by instability, where I am, we are all, forced to live daily with the inconceivable, the possibility of turning to art work  is of great value, as if I turned to the soul itself, to an inner safe world.
From the contrast of these worlds the resulting works tend to the eclectic combination of multiple references, integrating seemingly incompatible elements and origins often opposed, or reminiscent of an almost lost rurality.
My works development happens at the confluence between the fundamental forces of Nature and the place of the human being as an element, among others, of a wider context, between phenomenon and essence, action and result, in a search for symbolic representation of the complexities of life, inserted in a society technically advanced but in growing difficulties in human terms, and of the place that it occupies in the Universe.

"Heroon," is dedicated to the heroism of the common man, a telluric and ancient man of experience and accumulated wisdom, supported by the four legs of a bench, of industrial production yet inwardly full of reverence for the sacred in Nature. A kind of reliquary of contradictory life experiences.

Memória descritiva

A memória, a História da Arte, a cultura popular, a representação do corpo humano, a tentativa de equilibrar tendências opostas, são os pilares da construção das minhas obras, mas não o ponto de origem, esse fica reservado à busca por uma homeostasia interior. 

Num mundo exterior tomado pela instabilidade, onde sou, somos todos, forçados a conviver diariamente com o inconcebível, é de grande valor, a possibilidade de me voltar para o trabalho artístico, como se me voltasse para a própria alma, para um mundo interno e seguro.

Do contraste desses mundos nascem obras que tendem à combinação ecléctica, de múltiplas referências, integrando elementos aparentemente incompatíveis e de proveniências muitas vezes opostas ou com reminiscências de uma ruralidade já quase perdida.

O seu desenvolvimento acontece na confluência entre as forças fundamentais da Natureza e o lugar do ser humano como um elemento, entre outros, de um contexto mais amplo, entre fenómeno e essência, acção e resultado, numa procura de representação simbólica das complexidades da vida, inserida numa sociedade tecnicamente avançada mas em crescentes dificuldades em termos humanos, e do lugar que ela ocupa no Universo.

 

“Heroon”, é dedicado ao heroísmo do homem comum, um homem telúrico, antigo e gasto mas rico de vivências e sabedoria acumulada, sustentado pelas quatro pernas de um banco, de produção industrial mas interiormente pleno de reverência pelo sagrado na natureza. Uma espécie de relicário de contraditórias experiências de vida.
